Final Fantasy Resonance Gets New Trailer Announcing Demo, Showcases Sephiroth Boss Fight

Square Enix has officially released a fresh trailer for its upcoming RPG, Final Fantasy Resonance, revealing that a free playable demo is available for players starting today. According to the announcements, the demo encompasses the entirety of the game's first chapter, giving fans a robust taste of what to expect. Notably, players who jump into the trial will be able to carry all of their accumulated save data directly over to the full game when it officially launches on October 22nd.

The newly unveiled trailer offers a deeper look at the title's unique aesthetic approach, marking Final Fantasy's very first foray into the HD-2D visual style. Producer Kiseki Nakashima previously explained that the development team experimented with various methods—such as voxels and superimposing 2D effects—before ultimately settling on HD-2D as the ideal way to represent the game's various cinematic scenes and challenges. The footage showcases multiple dungeons, cutscenes, and classic turn-based battles rendered in this distinctive style.

In addition to showcasing the general gameplay flow, the trailer highlights returning characters and cameos from across the wider Final Fantasy franchise. Most notably, the footage confirms an appearance by the iconic Final Fantasy VII antagonist, Sephiroth. Players can take on Sephiroth in a challenging boss fight, testing their ability to defend against his remarkably powerful attacks.

While initial platform details varied by announcement, sources confirm that the demo and full game reach multiple platforms. Nintendo Life reported that the demo arrives on Switch 1 and 2, while Gematsu confirmed the demo's availability on PlayStation 5. The full release of Final Fantasy Resonance is scheduled for October 22nd across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2, adapting part of the storyline from the 2015 mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.
