Far Cry FX Series Adds Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Steve Buscemi to First Season

The Far Cry television series for FX has announced a significant roster of cast members for its first season. Rob Mac, who is also co-showrunner alongside Noah Hawley, will lead the ensemble alongside Lizzy Caplan and Steve Buscemi. Additional cast members include Brendan Gleeson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Hamish Linklater, Jamie Demetriou, and Sam Spruell, all appearing in the debut season.

Gleeson recently starred in Spider-Noir and The Banshees of Inisherin, while Linklater is known for voicing Batman in Batman: Caped Crusader. Jennifer Jason Leigh earned acclaim for The Hateful Eight and Fargo. Demetriou is recognized for Only Murders in the Building, and Spruell appeared in Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

The anthology format will give each season a fresh narrative and cast. Noah Hawley explained the creative vision to Deadline: "It was an exciting idea that we could build an anthology game adaptation where each season is a different story about civilized people thrown into situations where they have to become increasingly uncivilized." This approach mirrors Hawley's work on Fargo, which jumped through decades with every season.

No plot details or character information has been revealed for the upcoming series. Production will take place at Pinewood Studios in London. The series uses the Far Cry video game franchise as its blueprint, adapting the games' model of introducing new settings and characters across different entries.

The Far Cry game series has been quiet since Far Cry 6 released in 2021. Ubisoft is reportedly developing Far Cry 7, with the IP now under the Creative House 1 umbrella, also known as Vantage Studios. The studio oversees major Ubisoft franchises including Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six. Tencent holds a significant stake in Vantage Studios following a $1 billion investment.

A release date for the Far Cry FX series has not been confirmed.
