A Year After Being Mysteriously Delisted, EGGCONSOLE's Puyo Puyo PC-9801 Reissue Returns To Nintendo Switch

Nearly a year after vanishing from the storefront, D4Enterprise's EGGCONSOLE reissue of the PC-9801 version of Puyo Puyo has returned to the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan. The Japanese publisher initially launched the Compile-developed puzzle title on August 28, 2025, only to pull it from sale shortly afterward alongside PC-98 versions of Microcabin's Fray and Nihon Falcom's Brandish.

At the time of the original removals, D4Enterprise offered vague statements regarding the incident, leaving the root cause open to interpretation. Speculation circulated that the games were pulled due to the unauthorized use of the MEG-DOS Emulator—an MS-DOS-compatible PC98 emulator owned by M2. With the game's reappearance on the Japanese Nintendo storefront, it appears that whatever issue prompted the removal has been resolved. Additionally, the title is slated to arrive on the US storefront in the near future, although the US website link is not yet active.

Originally launching in 1993, the PC-98 version of Puyo Puyo arrived two years after the 1991 MSX2 original. It retains the core falling-block gameplay where players match colored Puyos to trigger chain reactions, while adding large animated character portraits, new dialogue scenes between battles, and screen-edge "Puyo preview indicators" for enhanced visibility. According to the EGGCONSOLE website, the release features four total modes: Solo Puyo Puyo (VS Computer), Duo Puyo Puyo (VS Human), Endless Puyo Puyo (VS Yourself), and Riddle Puyo Puyo (VS Brain). The title is priced at $7.19, though players should note that EGGCONSOLE releases typically feature no extensive localization and are presented in their original Japanese format.
