Disney and Epic announce Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run Fortnite experience
Disney and Epic Games have announced a cross-platform activation linking the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction to an all-new Fortnite adventure called Smugglers Gambit.
Disney and Epic Games have officially announced Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite, a first-of-its-kind activation connecting the Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction located at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, to an all-new Star Wars adventure in Fortnite titled Smugglers Gambit. This integrated experience allows eligible guests who accept a special mission on the theme park ride to collect crates that earn rewards within Fortnite.
Sean Shoptaw, executive vice president of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, noted in a statement that this marks the first time the attraction has reached beyond physical walls into a connected game world. The experience is designed to let stories flow from a queue in Orlando or Anaheim onto screens almost anywhere. Built in-house, Smugglers Gambit lets players become an infamous smuggler exploring Mersa Veta Station, taking on quests across Ord Ryla, teaming up in co-op missions, battling pirates, Imperial remnants, and dangerous wildlife, and choosing a class to level up and unlock new gear.
The underlying cockpit technology behind the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction was originally built on Unreal Engine 5 by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic. Because the ride utilizes Unreal Engine—the same technology powering UEFN—authentic assets from the attraction have been integrated directly into the Fortnite island. Ray Gresko, senior vice president and head of product and development at Disney Games, pointed out that UEFN allowed designers to focus on story alongside gameplay, extending Hondo’s narrative into a new chapter alongside the Lucasfilm creative team.
Asa Kalama, executive-creative and interactive experiences at Walt Disney Imagineering, explained that the interaction can start at home or in the park, with guests aboard the attraction claiming post-ride rewards in Fortnite. Adam Sussman, president of Epic Games, added that the collaboration demonstrates how entertainment can transition from the physical world into Fortnite. Lucasfilm's senior vice president of franchise story and creative strategy, James Waugh, also emphasized the pioneering, cross-platform nature of the project.
The activation launches on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Orlando, Florida. It is included at no additional cost with valid theme park admission. Guests can accept the special mission while in the attraction queue via the Disneyland app or the My Disney Experience app. To claim rewards such as a Forsworn Trooper Outfit, eligible guests must link a MyDisney account with an Epic Games account, while guests unable to link accounts can redeem a code in Fortnite directly.
