Blizzard has confirmed that no further expansions are currently planned for Diablo IV as the team looks ahead to the release of Diablo V in Spring 2029. Following the launch of Diablo IV on the Switch 2, the studio outlined its future plans during BlizzCon 2026. While future seasons, anniversary celebrations, and an Amazon Class early next year are still on the way, the fourth game will rely on seasonal content rather than major expansions moving forward.

Diablo game director Brent Gibson explained that the team feels the Story of Hatred reached a proper conclusion with Lord of Hatred and Mephisto. According to Gibson, development focus is now split between ongoing seasons for Diablo IV and preparing for the next major entry in the action role-playing game series. The narrative will eventually shift toward telling the Story of Terror.

Diablo V is scheduled to take place one hundred years after the events of Diablo IV. Gibson noted that the lead up to this apocalypse will unfold gradually over the coming seasons. Even with future content shifting away from expansions, Blizzard stated that support for Diablo IV will continue for a very long time.
