Diablo 4's anniversary event resurrects Tristram, complete with iconic music and Uber bosses

Season of Hell's Legacy brings back the original village hub from Diablo 1 as a fully explorable zone, including a challenging Uber Tristram variant where players face Baal, Mephisto, and Diablo simultaneously for the Hellfire Torch.

Diablo 4's Season of Hell's Legacy marks the 30th anniversary of the series, and Blizzard is mining the franchise's past for content. The latest discovery is a faithful recreation of Tristram, the village hub from the original Diablo released in 1997.

Tristram serves as the home base where players buy and sell items and interact with NPCs like Griswold, Ogden, Pepin, and Wirt. The recreation preserves the layout and characters from the 1997 original, though with dramatically improved visuals. The audio is particularly faithful, featuring the iconic Tristram guitar riff and Griswold's voice acting.

The zone goes deeper than a simple nostalgic tour. Players can transform Tristram into Uber Tristram, a special variant previously exclusive to Diablo 2's Lord of Destruction expansion. This harder version mirrors the destroyed village from Diablo 2's first act but adds a major challenge: fighting Baal, Mephisto, and Diablo simultaneously. Defeating all three Prime Evils rewards the Hellfire Torch, an extremely powerful charm that now appears in Diablo 4.

The Uber Tristram bosses also drop a new item whose purpose players are still investigating. The discovery hints at more content Blizzard may have included in the anniversary season.

Diablo 4 will receive no further expansions, with seasons becoming the primary content focus. Blizzard has indicated more storytelling is planned to set up Diablo's apocalyptic return, which will establish the events of Diablo 5, scheduled for 2029.
