Counter-Strike 2 players can now hatch and raise virtual chickens with 35 different rarity skins, teaching them tricks and displaying them on their profiles. The feature arrived without fanfare alongside the Rush Hour update.

Valve has shadow-dropped a pet chicken system into Counter-Strike 2, adding a cosmetic layer to the tactical shooter that caught players off guard. While chickens have existed on certain maps for some time, this new mechanic transforms them into collectible companions.

Players can obtain an egg through their weekly drops. The egg takes a week to hatch into a chick, consuming both of that week's allotted drops. Once hatched, players can name their chick, care for it with chicken feed, and watch it grow into a fully fledged chicken.

The system includes 35 different chicken skins spanning various rarity levels. Designs range from a standard brown chicken and white silkie to elaborate cosmetics in bright blue, purple-yellow, blue gradient, nuclear red, and toxic green. Like weapon skins, chicken cosmetics can be inspected in detail.

Chickens can learn tricks including running in circles, flapping their wings to fly briefly, and performing a karate kick. Players can take their chicks to a photo booth before they mature, position them on their shoulder in the loadout screen, and eventually bring fully grown chickens into lobbies. After a chicken reaches full maturity, it leaves the player, but its photo remains on the profile.

The feature received no mention in the Rush Hour patch notes, arriving as a surprise discovery for the community. The update also introduced a new fast-paced game mode and silent reload functionality alongside the undocumented chicken system.
