CD Projekt Red “Very Happy” With Cyberpunk 2077 Sales On Switch 2
CD Projekt Red has expressed high satisfaction regarding the commercial performance of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Switch 2, following its launch alongside Nintendo's new console.
CD Projekt Red has shared positive remarks regarding the commercial performance of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Switch 2. Speaking in an interview with The Game Business, joint-CEO Michał Nowakowski reflected on the game's release alongside Nintendo's console in 2025, noting that the team was uncertain of what to expect given the unique timing of launching simultaneously with new hardware.
According to Nowakowski, the open-world RPG became the best-selling third-party title on the platform for a period following its launch, reportedly outpacing several first-party Nintendo games outside of Mario Kart World. While the initial install base of the new hardware was smaller than established platforms like Steam, the studio confirmed that the port broke even, turned a profit, and continues to maintain steady sales. Nintendo reportedly praised the performance and special hardware features of the game as well, leaving CD Projekt Red optimistic about future projects on the ecosystem.
The successful Switch 2 rollout contrasts sharply with the game's initial December 2020 launch, which was marred by severe technical problems. Reflecting on that period, Nowakowski acknowledged that releasing the game in such a state "was for sure wrong, period." He addressed the historical context of the launch, noting that while outside voices and fans lobbied for the release, and developers pushed to get the project finished due to exhaustion, there were no external investors forcing an immediate deadline. CD Projekt Red subsequently worked to improve the title over the years via major updates like the 2.0 patch, the Phantom Liberty expansion, and cumulative sales surpassing 40 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, Microsoft recently announced that Cyberpunk 2077 is scheduled to leave Xbox Game Pass soon.
