Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest creators' Xbox 360 RPG Blue Dragon is finally playable on PC thanks to fans
A fan-made PC port called re:Blue brings the Xbox 360 classic RPG Blue Dragon to PC platforms with enhanced features and modern support.
Blue Dragon, the Xbox 360 role-playing game created by Final Fantasy mastermind Hironobu Sakaguchi after his departure from Square Enix, is finally playable on PC courtesy of a dedicated fan project. Released earlier this month, a fan-made PC port titled re:Blue allows owners of the original Xbox 360 version to dump their files and experience an enhanced edition of the title on modern personal computers.
Developed as Sakaguchi's first RPG after leaving Square following the box office performance of Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, the original 2006 title marked a major industry reunion. The project paired Sakaguchi with legendary Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu and enlisted Dragon Quest artist and Dragon Ball Z creator Akira Toriyama for its distinctive visual style. While the game previously remained tied to Xbox hardware—retaining availability through backwards compatibility on modern Xbox consoles—Hironobu Sakaguchi previously indicated he was not particularly keen on bringing the title to other modern platforms.
The new re:Blue fan port changes that dynamic by delivering several enhanced technical features for PC users. The release includes full support for keyboard and mouse inputs, multiple aspect ratios, 4K visuals, and frame rates up to 120fps. Furthermore, the port introduces in-game achievements, incorporating entirely new achievements specifically designed for this fan-created version. Players wishing to use the port must own the original Xbox 360 game, which remains accessible on the Xbox Store, to supply their own game files.
