Balatro solo developer LocalThunk has offered a comprehensive look at what to expect from the long-awaited version 1.1 update. While speaking to the community on the official Balatro Discord server, the developer addressed the development timeline and apologized for missing the previously mentioned 2025 release window. LocalThunk explained that burnout following the mobile release caused a temporary pause in development, but work on the update has since resumed with a focus on delivering a polished experience rather than a rushed product.

Community summaries of recent Discord and leak details have outlined several significant additions heading to the game. Among the new gameplay features is a brand-new mechanic titled “When a card is drawn to hand,” which triggers during standard rounds as well as when opening Tarot and Spectral packs. An example provided includes a new Joker called \u201xAce up your Sleeve,” which grants plus one Mult when an Ace is drawn to hand. In total, the update will feature at least four new Jokers, alongside placeholder art for a card called “Survey.”

The update also introduces a new tier 2 voucher named “Lunker.” The underlying algorithm for selecting subsequent vouchers will feature a bias toward tier 2 options depending on incomplete voucher sets. Additionally, Blue stakes have undergone a complete rework that the developer feels fits much better into the core experience. When version 1.1 launches, these Blue stake adjustments and Joker reworks will apply by default, while a profile checkbox will allow players to toggle new content like specific vouchers and Jokers while still earning achievements.

For players concerned about mod support and future versions, LocalThunk confirmed that Steam will feature a selectable 1.0 legacy branch after version 1.1 goes live. There are currently no plans for a version 1.2 or a multiplayer mode. Instead, the developer anticipates releasing version 1.1.0 followed by a 1.1.1 patch containing bug fixes and balance tweaks a few months later.
