Atlus Celebrates a Decade Since Persona 5 First Launched
Atlus marks the tenth anniversary of Persona 5, reflecting on how the hit role-playing game transformed the series into a globally recognized franchise.

Atlus is celebrating the tenth anniversary of Persona 5. The game first launched in Japan on September 15, 2016, before arriving in western regions for the PlayStation 4 nearly seven months later. Official Atlus channels marked the milestone alongside thirty years of the broader Persona franchise by sharing commemorative artwork created by character designer Shigenori Soejima.
Upon its original release, Persona 5 received positive reviews and player feedback, quickly becoming a major commercial success for Atlus. The original title and its expanded re-release, Persona 5 Royal, broke developer sales records and propelled the series beyond its initial niche. The massive popularity of Joker and his companions fundamentally altered the trajectory for Atlus and parent company Sega.
In the years following the release of Persona 5, Sega and Atlus have expanded the property with numerous spin-offs and remakes. This sustained momentum allowed developers to take additional time on the development of Persona 6, which was officially announced a few months ago and is heavily rumored for a 2027 release.
