Asha Sharma Highlights 'Efficiency' And 'Affordability' For Xbox Project Helix
During Gamescom festivities, Xbox boss Asha Sharma discussed how hardware and component challenges are shaping plans for Xbox Project Helix.
During recent Gamescom festivities taking place in Germany, Xbox boss Asha Sharma spoke with the BBC regarding plans for Xbox Project Helix and how the company plans to navigate ongoing challenges associated with hardware and component crises. Throughout the interview, Sharma emphasized that "efficiency" and "affordability" are top of mind for the next generation of hardware, noting that the industry must find new ways to provide players with greater choice in how they buy and use their consoles.
Sharma stated that the entire industry must innovate on affordability and efficiency—factors that she notes have not strictly been necessary to tackle in the same way previously. However, due to the current hardware and component crisis, addressing these elements is described as an absolute necessity. This involves innovating on ways people play and purchase consoles, alongside focusing heavily on hardware efficiency regarding memory, storage usage, price per unit, and individual components.
The discussion aligned with announcements regarding a new Disc to Digital feature, which is designed to allow Xbox players to convert thousands of physical games into digital versions. Sharma described this capability as a key choice for consumers. Despite questions from the BBC regarding whether the next-generation console codenamed Project Helix will ultimately incorporate a physical disc drive, Sharma did not provide a definitive answer either way on the matter.
