Digital Bros has confirmed the cancellation of Armed Fantasia in its FY2026 financial results. The publisher cited gameplay revisions, market conditions, and the costs associated with completing the RPG as factors behind the decision.

Armed Fantasia was intended to be a spiritual successor to Wild Arms, the iconic JRPG series that began on PlayStation 1 in 1996. The game was initially funded via Kickstarter in 2022, raising ¥379,328,385 from backers.

Digital Bros discontinued the project after multiple attempts to improve gameplay and a third review of the game. The cancellation resulted in non-cash asset impairment of €18.7 million, including €17.6 million in write-offs for discontinued projects and €1 million in impairment losses on video games where expected future cash flows fell below carrying amounts.

A YouTube channel contains test footage and developer interviews from Armed Fantasia, though it has not been updated in three years. Digital Bros also canceled the sequel to the free-to-play game Battle Island as part of the same decision.

The Wild Arms franchise produced eight titles between 1996 and 2018 across various platforms, with the last console release being Wild Arms 5 in 2005.
