Ananta Release Date Set for January 2027 Across PC, PS5, and Mobile

NetEase's open-world urban RPG Ananta, previously known as Project Mugen, has officially secured a January 15, 2027 release date for PC, PS5, and mobile platforms.

NetEase has officially announced that its upcoming urban open-world RPG, Ananta—formerly known under the working title Project Mugen—will launch on January 15, 2027. The game is scheduled to release for PC via Steam and a separate launcher, alongside versions for the PlayStation 5 and mobile devices. Ahead of its debut, pre-registrations are currently open on the official website, offering sign-up rewards that include a character outfit.

Often described by observers as an "anime GTA," Ananta combines free-to-play live-service elements with open-world exploration across two primary settings: the Tokyo-inspired Nova City and the Hangzhou-referenced, scenic city of Chongxiao. Gameplay elements incorporate traversal methods such as swinging, swimming, driving, boating, and gliding, alongside mission styles ranging from stealth infiltration to combat featuring guns, melee weapons, and distinct character abilities.

Confirmed characters include the customizable main protagonist referred to as the Captain, alongside 15 other revealed figures such as Aileen, Alan, Bansy, Dila, Lykaia, Mechanika (Meg), Mimiko, Richie, Ringo, Seymour, Shi Ye, and Taffy. While developers have confirmed that characters are acquired entirely through standard gameplay rather than gacha mechanics, the game will feature monetization centered on cosmetics such as clothing, vehicles, and houses. Multiplayer support is not planned for launch, though the development team is looking into a potential four-player co-op mode for future updates.
