Anime RPG Ananta Confirms January 2027 Release Date and Crosses 17 Million Pre-Registrations
NetEase and developer Naked Rain have announced that free-to-play open-world RPG Ananta will launch worldwide on January 15, 2027, alongside news that pre-registrations have surpassed 17 million sign-ups.
Publisher NetEase and China-based developer Naked Rain have announced an official worldwide release date for their highly anticipated anime-style open-world game, Ananta. Formerly known during its early development under the working title Project Mugen, the title is scheduled to launch on January 15, 2027. The announcement was accompanied by a new trailer showcased at Gamescom Opening Night Live, giving players another look at its ambitious urban sandbox world.
Ananta draws frequent comparisons to an anime-themed version of Grand Theft Auto, featuring an expansive suite of open-world gameplay elements. The newly released footage highlights driving, cycling, skateboarding, flying, stealth mechanics, melee combat, and a massive UFO encounter. Beyond traditional combat and exploration, the game features a dedicated in-game social media platform where players can focus on growing their follower count and becoming influencers alongside managing traditional open-world activities.
The title will feature multiple playable characters that offer distinct opportunities within the urban environments. While developer NetEase reportedly removed character-unlock gacha mechanics years ago, questions remain regarding other potential forms of monetization. Ahead of its upcoming launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and mobile devices, player interest has surged, with pre-registrations officially surpassing 17 million sign-ups worldwide.
