Zelda Ocarina of Time Nintendo Direct Viewership Beats Gamescom Opening Night Live

Nintendo recently drew strong viewership for a developer showcase focused on remaking The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. According to figures from game marketing analyst LevelUp published by The Game Business, the Zelda Direct peaked at 2.1 million viewers.

That viewership total stands above several recent showcases of similar weight. The broadcast passed the 2 million peak viewers who watched Gamescom Opening Night Live. It also more than doubled both PlayStation's last September State of Play and Nintendo's Mario Kart World direct from April 2025, which reached 1 million and 930,000 peak viewers respectively.

Despite the strong performance against other industry showcases, the Zelda presentation lagged behind major entertainment milestones. A preview for Grand Theft Auto 6 on Netflix reached 31.1 million views after four days. After two days, the Zelda Direct accumulated 6.9 million views on YouTube.

Separately, a longtime Nintendo and Zelda veteran recently reacted to the Ocarina of Time remake. The veteran suggested that Shigeru Miyamoto's love of puppet shows influenced the art style of the project.
