Xbox Removes PS5 Logos from New Multiformat Game Trailers

Microsoft appears to have adjusted its approach to promoting competitor platforms, following through on previous executive comments regarding the visibility of PlayStation logos in its marketing materials. During Summer Game Fest earlier this year, Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty initially stated in an Xbox Wire interview that the company would include PlayStation 5 logos for multiplatform games shown during its Xbox Showcase livestream. However, following social media backlash from fans, new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma walked back the decision, calling it "a miss and I own it," and indicated the company would adjust its practices moving forward.

Recent uploads indicate this policy shift is now being implemented. A new trailer for Minecraft Dungeons 2, uploaded to the official Xbox YouTube channel, lists only Xbox Series X|S and PC as the game's intended platforms. In contrast, a previous Xbox trailer released around Summer Game Fest included references to the PlayStation 5, Steam, Nintendo Switch, and the "Switch 2." While a slightly different edit of the new trailer published by IGN continues to reference all of these platforms, the official Xbox-hosted version has excised them.

This marketing adjustment has also appeared in other Microsoft properties. A recent social media teaser trailer for Fable posted ahead of Gamescom 2026 omitted platform mentions entirely. Observers note that while rival platform holder Sony historically limits platform mentions on its official channels to PlayStation hardware, Sony does not typically publish its own first-party games on competing consoles, with rare exceptions such as MLB The Show.

As a result of these changes, players tracking multiplatform releases may find it less straightforward to identify whether upcoming Microsoft-published titles will ultimately be available on PlayStation consoles simply by watching official Xbox trailers.
