Fable Won't Require Multiple Playthroughs to Unlock All Achievements

Playground Games has assured players that unlocking all of Fable's trophies and achievements won't demand multiple playthroughs of the upcoming open-world RPG.

Associate game directors Craig Littler and Will Kennedy discussed the achievement design during a Q&A at Gamescom, responding to questions about whether the new game would feature comedy-centric trophies like previous entries in the franchise. "We'll say that we have the list, but we're not going to spoil the surprise," Littler said.

Earlier Fable games included unconventional achievements alongside standard RPG milestones. Fable 2 and 3 featured challenges like kicking chickens across the world and destroying a skeleton warrior's limbs as a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The new Fable will balance similar creative trophies with typical achievements for story endings and unlocking high-level magic spells.

Director Ralph Fulton has emphasized that Playground Games assembled the development team from Fable fans worldwide. "Every single member of the team is first and foremost a Fable fan," Fulton said. "Many of them, if not most of them, have traveled from all over the world to our little town in the middle of Warwickshire in England. Each and every one of them came here because they're a Fable fan. They love the series, they want to bring it back."

Fulton also noted that while Playground Games is primarily known for racing games, the studio found open-world development familiar territory. "It made sense not to fall too far from Horizon," he said. "This project definitely wasn't going to have cars, but open worlds felt like an area where we had transferable skills."

Fable launches February 23rd on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
