Wonder Boy Community Warns Against Unauthorized Steam Listing
A suspicious Steam listing selling Wonder Boy in Monster Land has appeared under publisher Retro Maniac, with no affiliation to official rights holders Sega or Westone. The Wonder Boy Universe fan community is urging players to avoid the unauthorized

A fraudulent listing for Wonder Boy in Monster Land has surfaced on Steam, prompting the Wonder Boy Universe fan community to issue a public warning.
The listing, attributed to publisher Retro Maniac, began selling the 1987 arcade classic on September 28, 2026, for $5.00 USD with a 20% introductory discount. The page makes no connection to official Wonder Boy rights holders including Sega, Westone, or LAT.
Wonder Boy Universe alerted players on social media: "We were notified that someone by the name of 'Retro Maniac' is selling illegal copies of Wonder Boy: Monster Land on Steam. The same developer also published it on Google Play under the name of 'H-Index'. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS!"
Retro Maniac's Steam catalog consists of only two titles. Beyond the unauthorized Wonder Boy listing, the publisher offers Data East's Street Hoop, a 1994 basketball arcade game that was uploaded to Steam on January 1, 2020. The sporadic release schedule raises further questions about the account's legitimacy.
Players seeking official versions of Wonder Boy in Monster Land have legitimate options. The title remains available through Nintendo Switch via the Sega Ages eShop line. The game was originally ported to the Sega Master System in 1988 and has received multiple official re-releases over the years.
