Steam Deck compatibility crosses 30,000 games as Steam Deck Verified and Playable counts climb

Nearly half a decade after Valve's handheld launched in February 2022, the Steam Deck library of officially compatible games has crossed the 30,000 mark. According to SteamDB figures highlighted by PC Gamer and Gaming On Linux, the handheld now has 8,964 Steam Deck Verified titles and 21,083 titles classified as Playable, up from roughly 3,000 combined in May 2022.

The two labels carry different expectations for players. A Verified game is expected to work well on the handheld from first boot, while Playable titles typically require some adjustments or finagling to reach a good experience. PC Gamer notes that the full verification criteria can present developers with confusing requirements to satisfy, and that similar compatibility checks are being extended to the Steam Machine, the upcoming Steam Frame, and SteamOS more broadly.

Absence of a badge does not necessarily mean a game is unplayable. PC Gamer points to Dragon Age: Origins, which is officially Unsupported yet still reportedly runs well on the device. Conversely, kernel-level anti-cheat systems common in competitive games often do not work with the handheld's Linux-based SteamOS.

The catalogue is not static. Ubisoft has said it is removing For Honor from the Linux platform, citing an inability to meaningfully deploy protection there, which PC Gamer reports will take effect September 10 and leave Steam Deck players with one fewer title to play.

For context, SteamDB figures cited in the report put the total number of games released on Steam at well over 130,000, roughly double the count from 2022.
