Sega's mobile revival project, Rent-A-Hero Z, is shutting down mere months after its initial release. Developed by Korean studio The JAEMI and published by Web3 game publisher LINE NEXT, the smartphone title soft-launched in June 2026 across Australia, Canada, and India. The regional soft-launch was intended to actively gather player feedback to deliver an enhanced experience for global gamers.

However, the publisher announced a sudden end to the project. In a statement released to players, the development team expressed deep gratitude for the support they received, stating, "We have worked hard to bring you the best possible gaming experience. However, after careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision that we are no longer able to continue the service. We are truly sorry that things must end this way."

The game is scheduled to go offline permanently on Wednesday, September 30, at 4:00 UTC. Ahead of the complete shutdown, in-game purchases for paid currency and paid items, alongside new store downloads, were turned off on September 7. Players seeking refunds for unused paid in-game currency have been directed to submit a request via an official contact form. The revival originally traced its roots back to Sega's 1991 Mega Drive cult classic action RPG, which later received remakes on the Dreamcast and Xbox.
