Joshua Mills, the new Creative Director of Rainbow Six Siege, has acknowledged the significant challenge posed by Grand Theft Auto 6's imminent launch on November 19. In an interview with The Game Business, Mills spoke candidly about the impact a major AAA release has on the broader gaming landscape, particularly for live-service multiplayer titles.

"We have got a big one coming this year, which is GTA. Obviously, it doesn't matter what genre you're in; you're going to get hit when that drops," Mills said. "You have to think ahead and bring your expectations in line with what's going to go on there."

The timing creates a compressed window for Ubisoft's announcements. The BLAST R6 Major Osaka esports event runs from November 6 to 15, with its grand final on November 15. During that final, Ubisoft plans to reveal new maps, modes, operators, quality-of-life improvements, and new features for Rainbow Six Siege. This reveal lands just four days before GTA 6's release.

Rather than treat the situation as a setback, Mills emphasized Ubisoft's commitment to supporting the game's player base. "The one rule we have is to act as if, for those who stay connected the whole time, serve them like kings and queens, make sure that they constantly have what it is that we offer and make sure that we serve them to the best of our ability," he stated.

Mills noted that Ubisoft will not reduce its efforts simply because a competitor is launching a major title. While Rainbow Six Siege and GTA 6 operate in different genres, the launch will inevitably draw player attention and resources across the gaming industry.

Rainbow Six Siege has recently launched the Wasteland Circuit racing mode, which Mills highlighted as evidence of the team's continued energy and creative output. The game's anniversary celebration is also approaching, traditionally a significant moment for the community.
