A new device from Pico, heavily linked to the upcoming Space Pro mixed reality headset, has reportedly received FCC certification in the United States. The regulatory approval arrives shortly after the company postponed its planned September launch event, shifting the release window to the fourth quarter of 2026 in order to implement major software upgrades.

Filings in the FCC database outline a Mixed Reality Computer, detailing separate entries for both a headset and an external tethered puck. The components are cataloged under FCC IDs 2A5NV-AA1Z0 and 2A5NV-B3110. Documentation and product labels identify the two units as a Mixed Reality Headset and a Mixed Reality Main Unit. The main unit's label explicitly notes a 7,000 mAh battery rated at 54.32 Wh and indicates support for Wi-Fi 7. Meanwhile, test documentation for the headset details a radio operating between 2.402 and 2.480 GHz alongside an nRF link connecting to a controller. This structural setup indicates that the external puck likely houses the battery and primary computing components.

Previously, Pico and its parent company ByteDance teased the device under the codename 'Project Swan', touting micro-OLED panels boasting 4,000 pixels per inch, a dual-chip architecture featuring a self-developed coprocessor for computer vision, and a main processor promising twice the CPU and GPU performance found in current Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 headsets. The hardware is designed to operate on Pico OS 6 alongside the Pico Spatial Engine. Leaked SDK videos earlier revealed a physical design taking inspiration from devices like the Apple Vision Pro and Samsung Galaxy XR, complete with a rear strap and a visor arrangement accompanied by an external tethered puck.

Pico originally scheduled a product launch event for September 2, 2026, but abruptly canceled it days prior. The company cited an opportunity discovered during final user-experience testing to incorporate an exciting new feature, electing to push the commercial launch to Q4 2026. While short- and long-term confidentiality requests obscure parts of the current FCC documentation—with short-term filings set to expire on February 28, 2027—the recent certification marks a significant regulatory milestone as the hardware moves toward its revised fourth-quarter release window.
