Plaion has announced a major delay for the highly anticipated Neo Geo AES+, a recreation of SNK's classic 1990 original console. Originally earmarked for a launch on November 12, 2026, the worldwide release has now been pushed back to September 16, 2027. In a statement posted on social media by Plaion UK and PLAION REPLAI, the company issued an apology to fans who were looking forward to receiving the hardware.

According to the publishers, the response to the Neo Geo AES+ following its announcement earlier in the year was extraordinary. However, global component supply constraints mean that they cannot manufacture enough systems to deliver a proper worldwide launch. Rather than launching with severely limited availability, the team has decided to take extra time to expand production, secure necessary components, and invest in the future of the platform.

For customers who have already pre-ordered the device, Plaion has assured that existing orders remain secure and will keep their priority place in line. There will be no price increase, and no action is required from buyers, though some secondary reports note that standard cancellation options remain available through retailers like Amazon. To compensate for the long wait and thank supporters for their patience, every console shipped from the initial launch production run will include a special Founding Supporter Bonus.

Announced earlier in the year, the Neo Geo AES+ was designed to feature an HDMI port and a selection of games from the vast SNK library, allowing players to enjoy arcade action at home. Retro community commentary and coverage note that the hardware project was designed by Jotego and Furrtek and based on the MiSTer core. While the nearly one-year delay is a disappointment to retro gaming enthusiasts, the extra development and manufacturing window aims to ensure a stable supply for the community when it finally arrives in late 2027.
