Final Design Revealed for FPGA-Powered Multisystem 2 Pocket Handheld
The team behind the Multisystem 2 Pocket has revealed its final design, featuring a six-button layout and a Nintendo-style cross D-pad.

The team behind the upcoming Multisystem 2 Pocket handheld has revealed what it hopes will be the final design before entering full production later this year. The FPGA-powered device incorporates feedback from the community gathered over the past few months to find a balance for retro game fans. Players can also expect an eventual dock accessory for the system.
One of the most notable updates to the prototype is the inclusion of a six-button setup. This button arrangement was favored by Sega on consoles like the Mega Drive and Saturn, but it has become less common in modern hardware. The layout makes the handheld well-suited for arcade fighting titles such as Street Fighter II.
Additionally, the latest prototype replaces the previous PlayStation-style segmented D-pad with a Nintendo-style cross design. Placed in the upper-left position on the case, the new D-pad works alongside dual analog sticks. The newly revealed companion dock will allow users to connect the handheld to a television or monitor, charge the battery, and support hardware expansion. The team behind the project hints that expansion hardware could include a second FPGA chip capable of running Dreamcast games.
