Minecraft Dungeons II has arrived on Nintendo's systems and other platforms, with critics offering a range of verdicts on the action RPG sequel. The game currently sits at 75/100 on Metacritic, with a user score of 8.2, while OpenCritic puts the average critic score at 77/100.

Several reviewers highlighted the sequel's improvements over the original. Destructoid awarded the game 9/10, calling it "a hallmark of excellence" and noting that it "expands and improves on the original game in most conceivable ways." DayOne gave it 8.5/10, describing Minecraft Dungeons II as "the game the original was meant to be," praising flashier and more engaging combat alongside bigger, more cohesive worlds and varied character builds.

Press Start also awarded 8/10, acknowledging that the game "adds depth without losing the approachable chaos that made its predecessor work." The reviewer highlighted the new Sift realm and expanded gear system as broadening the formula, while appreciating reduced friction in co-op menus. GamesRadar scored it 3.5/5, calling it a "classic example of 'how the first game should have been done'" and noting it rewards experimentation with enchantments while remaining accessible to younger players.

Not all critics were equally impressed. IGN gave the game 6/10, describing it as "a shallow ARPG that provides a few evenings of mindless dungeon delving fun, but not a lot beyond that." The review criticized the game for making poor use of Minecraft's iconic world and featuring a barebones story and skin-deep combat, though acknowledged it remains inoffensive for those intimidated by deeper ARPG systems.

GameSpot took a middle ground at 7/10, noting that "Dungeons 2 isn't a radical reinvention, and rightly so." The review credited the sequel with adding depth while connecting its world to the wider Minecraft universe, introducing a meaningful economy and a build system with considerably more freedom to experiment, alongside expanded post-campaign activities.

Common praise centered on improved combat mechanics, a more connected world, and expanded customization options through the gear and enchantment systems. Concerns from critics focused on endgame content, the extent to which the game leverages Minecraft's setting, and how much the sequel ultimately differs from the original formula.

Nintendo Life's own review of the Nintendo Switch 2 version is forthcoming.
