Meta's new VR glasses weigh 100 grams but cost $1,300 and aren't really for gaming
Meta announced VR glasses at Connect with Micro-OLED displays and a tethered processor puck, positioning them as an XR experience closer to the Apple Vision Pro than traditional gaming headsets.

Meta has announced a new virtual reality device positioned more as extended reality than a gaming headset. The Meta VR Glasses, arriving in spring 2027, feature Micro-OLED displays, pancake lenses, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 Gen 3 processor.
The glasses themselves weigh just over 100 grams, making them roughly five times lighter than the Quest 3. However, they connect to a tethered puck weighing 300 grams that houses the processor, 12 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage, and a three-hour battery. The glasses contain the displays, optics, and sensors.
The display specs include two Micro-OLED panels at 2412 x 2288 resolution, 120 Hz refresh rate, and 37 pixels per degree. The Quest 3 offers 25 PPD while the Pimax Dream Air offers 53 PPD. The field of view is 70 degrees, with passthrough described as excellent.
Meta positions these as an XR device similar to the Apple Vision Pro, moving beyond traditional VR gaming. The glasses include an AI assistant controllable by voice for playing movies, opening apps, and other tasks. Hand tracking is supported, with Beat Saber, Two Point Hospital, and Tetris Effect: Mixed Realities launching or receiving hand tracking updates by release. Touch Plus controllers are supported but not included.
The Meta VR Glasses will launch at $1,300 this spring.
