Manic Miner Returns on Nintendo Switch This Fall

BBG Entertainment has announced that the 1983 platformer Manic Miner will receive a new release on Nintendo Switch this fall. The project is described as a fresh take on the ZX Spectrum classic, fully authorized by original creator Matthew Smith.

According to the announcement, all twenty of the game's original levels have been "lovingly redesigned with a modern new look," incorporating parallax scrolling and dynamic visual enhancements. The remake aims to preserve the core challenge and layout that made the title a landmark of early British home-computer gaming while updating its presentation for contemporary hardware.

Manic Miner, originally released by Bug-Byte in 1983, is widely regarded as one of the defining platformers of the 8-bit era. Its inclusion of in-game music, distinct enemy patterns, and precise jump mechanics influenced a generation of European developers. BBG Entertainment, a German publisher known for retro revivals, is handling the Switch version.
