Danganronpa 2×2 reveals mysterious student Sakutaro Higashi for new Slayhem Mode

Spike Chunsoft has revealed the identity of a mysterious new character in Danganronpa 2×2. Fans had nicknamed the student "John Danganronpa" after seeing him in a recent Nintendo Direct trailer. The character is Sakutaro Higashi, credited as the Ultimate ???, and he will appear in the game's new Slayhem Mode.

Sakutaro is voiced by Natsuki Hanae in Japanese and Griffin Burns in English. According to Spike Chunsoft, he "demands Monokuma puts the class trial on hold," suggesting a significant role in the mode's story.

Slayhem Mode is an original scenario for Danganronpa 2×2 supervised by series creator Kazutaka Kodaka. The mode features a completely new story with new twists, culprits, victims and murder tricks separate from the remake of the original Danganronpa 2 campaign.

Danganronpa 2×2 is a remake of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, originally released for PSP in 2012. The remake launches January 14, 2027, on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.
