CloudGear v2.0 Brings GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Luna and Boosteroid to Apple TV

CloudGear has expanded to Apple TV with the release of its v2.0 update. The application brings GeForce NOW, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Amazon Luna and Boosteroid together on Apple TV through the official App Store. Bitwise Solutions notes that CloudGear is the first App Store application to combine all four services on the platform.

Previously, individual cloud gaming services reached Apple TV through community projects that relied on sideloading, such as CloudNow for GeForce NOW and Stratix for Xbox Cloud Gaming. CloudGear functions as a companion app to the existing iPhone and iPad version. Players browse, sign in and launch games from a mobile device before sending the active session to the Apple TV. Once the session transfers, the mobile device can be put away. Both devices must remain on the same network, and the Apple TV requires tvOS 18.6 or newer.

Sessions on Apple TV can run at up to 4K with HDR10 and 7.1 surround sound. GeForce NOW and Boosteroid support up to 4K resolution, while Xbox Cloud Gaming runs at up to 1440p and Amazon Luna reaches up to 1080p. Output quality depends on individual service capabilities and account tiers, and an Apple TV 4K model is required for 4K and HDR output. The Apple TV version is included with the existing CloudGear unlock without requiring a separate purchase.

In addition to television support, CloudGear v2.0 introduces full Steam Controller support across iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. The update enables the right trackpad to function as a mouse alongside rumble and trackpad haptic feedback. A new Keyboard and Mouse mode lets users remap buttons, analog sticks and trackpads to keyboard keys or mouse actions. A Tethered mode also permits physical keyboards and mice to connect through the paired iPhone or iPad while playing games on the television screen. Furthermore, the v2.0 update adds support for OnePlay.
