Apple cuts EU App Store commissions to 26% in regulatory settlement
Apple is reducing commissions across its European App Store following disputes with the European Commission over its gatekeeper status. The changes take effect October 1, 2026.

Apple has updated its App Store commission structure in the EU to resolve ongoing disagreements with the European Commission over its gatekeeper status.
The standard commission for apps using Apple's payment system will drop to 26%, while purchases through third-party payment systems carry a 20% commission. Small Business Program participants, with annual revenue below $1 million, qualify for a 10% rate, matching participants in the Mini Apps Partner Program and Video Partner Program.
Apps offering external payment links see a 15% commission, reduced to 10% for qualifying program participants. Apps downloaded from alternative stores or developer websites incur just 5% commission.
The policy applies exclusively within the EU. Apple is also expanding criteria for alternative app stores and sideloading access on iOS. Store and website owners may now access iOS if they are publicly traded, have secured investment from major venture capital firms, or have completed financial audits by licensed accountants.
These changes arrive after Apple's June 2025 policy update drew criticism for excessive complexity and failed to resolve the regulatory dispute. The new commission structure takes effect October 1, 2026.
