Capcom announces Ace Attorney Dual Destinies VR port as series awaits mainline sequel

Capcom has announced a new Ace Attorney release, but it's not the mainline sequel fans have been waiting for. The publisher revealed a VR port of Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies, developed and published by Amanta K.K., ten years after the franchise's last original title, Spirit of Justice.

The announcement has drawn mixed reactions from the community. Dual Destinies is widely regarded as one of the least popular mainline entries in the series, and the VR-only format has left many players disappointed. Some have pointed out that another Japan-exclusive Ace Attorney VR game, The VR Incident, remains untranslated and could potentially be localized instead.

Capcom has expressed ambitions to elevate Ace Attorney alongside Mega Man and Devil May Cry to the status of its flagship franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter. The publisher has invested in the series by localizing the Great Ace Attorney duology and Ace Attorney Investigations 2 after years of regional exclusivity. Following the success of Onimusha: Way of the Sword, Capcom has signaled interest in reviving dormant properties.

VR adaptations of existing games have produced successful results before, including Capcom's Resident Evil 4 VR port. However, the timing of this announcement has frustrated players expecting news of Ace Attorney 7, which many believe remains in development given Capcom's stated commitment to expanding the franchise.
