Xbox to Limit Monthly Cloud Gaming Hours on Game Pass Starting November
Microsoft is introducing monthly caps on cloud gaming hours across Xbox Game Pass tiers, with options to purchase additional hours.
Xbox is introducing monthly caps on cloud gaming hours across all Xbox Game Pass tiers starting this November. Under the new policy, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be limited to 15 hours of cloud gaming per month. Subscribers in the Premium tier will receive 10 hours, while those on the Essential tier will be capped at 5 hours of monthly play.
For players who exceed their monthly allotment, Xbox will allow the purchase of additional cloud gaming hours directly from the store. While exact pricing has not yet been detailed and is expected to vary, this purchasing option will also be extended to players who are not subscribed to Game Pass but still wish to utilize cloud gaming. This system allows Xbox One players to access Xbox Series X/S titles via the cloud, though only select titles are supported initially, with plans to expand compatibility throughout the year.
According to Xbox, the decision to implement these limits will affect approximately four percent of its current subscriber base. Explaining the transition, the company stated, “The cost of providing cloud gaming grows as more people use it and play for longer. Moving to monthly limits allows us to keep offering the service while continuing to invest in its reliability and performance.”
Xbox acknowledges that this change represents a higher cost for some players. The company plans to share additional details in November before the limits take effect, noting that they will monitor player feedback closely both before and after the rollout to potentially adjust the system.
