Ubisoft Removes Mention of Microtransactions Enhancing Game Fun From Annual Report
Ubisoft has removed a previous claim that microtransactions make games more fun from its latest fiscal year performance report.

Ubisoft has published its performance report for the fiscal year covering April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Game File journalist Stephen Totilo noted that a specific line regarding the fun aspect of microtransactions was removed from the document.
A year ago, Ubisoft stated that microtransactions help make game experiences more engaging, even for paid titles. The company previously argued that such options allowed gamers to customize characters or accelerate skill progression while emphasizing that purchases remained optional. The reasons behind the omission in the latest document remain unclear, though public backlash is a potential factor. Despite removing the claim, the company continues to embrace microtransactions.
The report also detailed changes in workforce compensation. During the 2025-26 fiscal year, employees received an average of 69.4 thousand euros, representing a 4% decrease from the previous year. This average is lower than totals recorded in the 2021-22 and 2022-23 fiscal years, though it marks a 1.5% increase compared to the 2023-24 fiscal year. By the end of March 2026, Ubisoft maintained a workforce of 16,600 people, with 88.6% working in game development and 11.4% in publishing.
