Trailmix Reflects on Five Years of Love and Pies and the Realities of Live Service
Trailmix general manager Felicity Gracie-Herst discusses five years of operating Love and Pies, community collaboration, and navigating shifting mobile market conditions.

Developer Trailmix is marking five years of operations for its merge title, Love and Pies. General manager Felicity Gracie-Herst shared insights on the milestone, noting that the studio approaches the title by building it alongside its community rather than behind closed doors. According to Gracie-Herst, player feedback and collaboration have played a central role in shaping the game since its launch.
Reflecting on the challenges of operating a long-running live service project, Gracie-Herst emphasized that studios must adapt alongside changing player expectations and technology. Last year, Trailmix overhauled the entire in-game economy after working through the process publicly with its community over several weeks. The studio also relies on qualitative feedback alongside traditional metrics to understand player sentiment and guide ongoing updates.
Rising user acquisition costs in the mobile market have further influenced how Trailmix approaches growth. Gracie-Herst stated that the era of scaling primarily through paid acquisition is largely over for the casual sector, prompting the studio to focus more on audience understanding and player advocacy. Looking ahead, Trailmix continues to manage the title independently following Supercell acquiring a majority stake in the studio in 2022.
