The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Announced Before Voice Actors Were Fully Informed
Geralt and Dandelion voice actors Doug Cockle and John Schwab revealed they were caught off guard by the announcement of The Witcher 3 expansion, Songs of the Past.
During Gamescom Opening Night Live 2026, CD Projekt Red revealed our first look at The Witcher 3 Remastered alongside a brand-new RPG expansion titled Songs of the Past. However, the game's iconic voice actors were surprisingly kept in the dark regarding the project's official unveiling.
Geralt voice actor Doug Cockle and Dandelion voice actor John Schwab discussed the reveal in a live stream with CD Projekt Red. Schwab admitted that he was not in the loop until after the expansion became public knowledge. He stated that the studio announced the expansion pack before they knew what they were doing, leaving him to briefly wonder if the studio had cast someone else for the role of Dandelion. Thankfully, Schwab ultimately returned to voice the beloved bard.
While Cockle had a slightly earlier heads-up regarding his availability, he was initially unaware of the project's exact nature. He received a preliminary inquiry regarding his schedule for an unspecified project, but ultimately learned what the studio was working on when it was officially revealed on social media. Interestingly, Songs of the Past was initially conceptualized by CD Projekt Red years ago before developer Fool's Theory stepped in later to bring the concept to life. The expansion is currently scheduled for release sometime in 2027.
