Supercell to Finalize Acquisition of Metacore This Month

Supercell has officially signed an agreement to acquire Metacore, the Finnish developer known for creating Merge Mansion. The acquisition is expected to be finalized by the end of this month, bringing the Merge Mansion team and its intellectual property under the Supercell umbrella. While the two companies previously announced the acquisition in a joint statement earlier this year, the specific financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

The transition has already led to significant structural changes at Metacore. As part of the move, the company closed its offices in Sweden and Germany and reduced its workforce at the Helsinki headquarters by 159 staff members. Supercell president Sara Bach praised Merge Mansion for creating a completely new genre and expressed confidence in the game's long-term potential as the team begins its next chapter.

Metacore CEO Mika Tammenkoski stated that the team is excited about the opportunities the acquisition creates for players and staff, emphasizing that the player experience remains the priority during the transition. Merge Mansion, which launched in 2020, is credited with kickstarting the mobile merge genre. According to AppMagic estimates, the title has earned approximately $540 million since launch, including roughly $7.7 million in the last 30 days.

This deal follows a history of partnership between the two Finnish firms. In January 2023, Metacore acquired Everdale, a game that had failed during Supercell's soft launch phase. Metacore attempted to rework and relaunch Everdale, but the project was ultimately cancelled in September 2024.
