Railroad Empire Grows Revenue Through Historical Realism and Corporation Wars
Azur Games reports increased daily active users and a new monthly revenue record for Railroad Empire following the introduction of corporation-based competition and new maps.

Railroad Empire has reached a new monthly revenue record of more than $600,000 this year. Azur Games producer Tatiana Vinogradova attributes this growth to a focus on historical authenticity and the introduction of competitive social mechanics tailored to a niche audience.
A primary driver of recent growth is the introduction of corporations, which are the game's version of clans. Through an event called Expansions, these corporations compete for dominance over a map of America. Players must collaborate to deliver resources and build railroads to specific cities. Once a railroad is completed, the corporation captures both the route and the city. Other corporations can then recapture these routes.
The Expansions mechanic was designed to mirror the real-world competition between historical North American railroad companies. According to Vinogradova, the feature led to a 10% increase in daily active users and a revenue boost of 10 to 18% during events. The competitive nature of the mode has encouraged players to develop complex strategies, including negotiating trade dominance and infiltrating other clans.
Content expansions have also provided significant gains. The release of the fourth map, Santa Fe, increased daily revenue by approximately 35%. The game now features five maps, each representing the story of a different railroad company. To maintain high visual fidelity, Azur Games signed a license agreement with Union Pacific to ensure trains, stations, and buildings accurately reflect real-world prototypes.
The developer is now shifting focus toward limited-time events featuring small maps that highlight engineering and infrastructure milestones. Examples include the River Rouge Complex and the Kennedy Space Center. Azur Games plans to launch these events every two months this year, with a goal of moving to a monthly cadence by next year.
To support this faster release schedule, the studio reworked its workflow. While map creation previously took eight months, the art team can now produce several maps per year by leveraging a growing internal knowledge base of railroad history and 2D concept tools.
