The merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. has cleared its final legal hurdle. U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguín approved the settlement on Wednesday, allowing the $111 billion deal to close on Tuesday, October 6. The ruling concluded months of contested litigation and negotiations between the companies and twelve state attorneys general.

"The Court finds the proposed consent decree represents a reasonable factual and legal resolution of the dispute," Martinez-Olguín wrote, as reported by Variety. "The parties reached their agreement following highly contested, however brief, litigation, and they reached their agreement following what they report to have been several rounds of in-depth negotiations."

When the merger closes, it will become the largest media merger in history. Paramount will gain control of all Warner Bros. assets, including its games division. Warner Bros. Games currently develops and publishes major franchises such as Batman, DC Comics properties, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and Game of Thrones.

The acquisition raises questions about the future direction of several studios under new ownership. NetherRealm Studios, Rocksteady, TT Games, and Avalanche Software are among the development teams whose futures remain unclear following the corporate restructuring. Paramount is also advancing its own gaming efforts, currently working on TMNT: The Last Ronin under its newly formed Paramount Games Studio label.

The merger's completion will reshape gaming's publishing landscape, consolidating major intellectual properties under single corporate control. Industry observers will be watching closely for announcements about how Paramount plans to manage the inherited game studios and franchises.
