Monster Hunter Now Reaches $336.9 Million in Lifetime Mobile Revenue
Scopely and Niantic's location-based mobile game Monster Hunter Now has generated $336.9 million over three years, with Japan driving the majority of player spending.

Monster Hunter Now has generated $336.9 million in player spending over three years on mobile platforms. AppMagic estimates indicate that the location-based game achieved the majority of its earnings during its first year on the market. Launched globally on September 14th, 2023, the title was originally developed by Niantic before that company's acquisition by Scopely. Within its first month, it ranked second only to Pokemon Go in the company portfolio, drawing over $30 million in player spending.
Player spending peaked during the first year, driven by milestones and the franchise's 20th anniversary celebrations. The game reached its first $150 million in just over six months. By the end of its first year, player spending reached $219.7 million, representing 60 percent of its lifetime earnings. Earnings declined by 69 percent to $67.3 million in year two, and dropped by an additional 26 percent to $49.9 million in year three. Industry trends toward direct-to-consumer platforms also factor into the metrics, as the game's web shop offers alternative value and exclusive bundles not found in-game.
Japan has established itself as the primary market for the title, contributing $230.4 million, which accounts for 63 percent of global lifetime revenue. By year three, Japan's share of player spending grew to 68 percent, reflecting the broader popularity of Capcom's intellectual property in the region. To mark its third anniversary, the development team shortened the cooldown time between new monster spawns and made Elder Dragon hunts available at all hours. Forge material requirements for popular monsters have also been temporarily reduced, and upcoming updates will introduce Rental Sets for testing equipment.
The title has received major quarterly updates since release, introducing new weapon types, story campaigns, online group hunts, Elder Dragon battles, and the Tundra habitat. A live event, Monster Hunter Now Carnival 2026 Osaka, is scheduled for November 14th and 15th, following the revenue boosts seen in previous live celebrations. Meanwhile, TiMi Studio Group recently revealed new details for its upcoming mobile title, Monster Hunter Outlanders, during Gamescom.
