Sega Amusements has unveiled a new immersive VR arcade attraction called The House of the Dead: Reawakened, expanding the long-running horror shooter franchise into large-scale walk-in experiences.

The two-player VR game physically brings players inside a Gothic manor environment. The cabinet features a themed facade designed as a creepy manor with doors and shuttered windows. The front door is an 85-inch display, while two windows are 43-inch displays. These displays offer jump scares and reveal the VR play area before players begin.

Inside, each player uses commercial VR headsets and weapon controllers equipped with haptic recoil technology, reminiscent of arcade classics like Time Crisis. Players can blast through three missions together, with each player receiving their own 2.1 channel audio system for immersive sound.

The original The House of the Dead debuted in arcades in 1997 and moved to Sega Saturn in 1998. The series has spawned numerous mainline arcade releases and console ports across decades. The most recent all-new release was 2018's The House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn, a traditional arcade shooter without VR technology.

Sega will showcase The House of the Dead: Reawakened at IAAPA Expo in Orlando, Florida, from November 17-20, one of the world's largest arcade and amusement park trade shows.
