GTA 6 Features Restricted Weapon Carry Limits and Realistic NPC Reactions
Grand Theft Auto 6 introduces new weapon carrying limits and nuanced NPC reactions depending on whether firearms are concealed or held in hand.

Rockstar Games is doubling down on making modern-day Vice City feel as grounded as possible in Grand Theft Auto 6, extending realism to how the game's world reacts to heavily armed players. Unlike previous titles where players could run around armed to the teeth with relative impunity, the upcoming open-world action-adventure implements stricter limitations and behavioral sophistication from its population.
According to Rockstar North co-studio director Rob Nelson in an interview with TGG, players can always carry two concealed handguns. Additionally, players can carry two long guns, though they will be visible on the player's back and in their hand rather than storing both simultaneously on the back. Nelson explained that one long gun goes in the off hand while the other rests on the back if players choose to carry two.
NPC reactions scale according to how these weapons are displayed. Given how open carry law works in Leonida, NPCs will not immediately freak out upon seeing a long gun on a player's back. However, holding a long gun in hand changes the dynamic significantly, causing NPCs to react and move away. Furthermore, driving mechanics are set to be more realistic by combining elements of GTA 4 and GTA 5, and players will also need to refuel their vehicles.
The title is scheduled to launch on November 19th for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, with an Extended Look having showcased 30 FPS gameplay on PS5 Pro.
