GTA 6 Has Reportedly Generated Over $400 Million in Preorders Ahead of November Launch
According to third-party research from Sensor Tower, Grand Theft Auto 6 has brought in over $400 million in preorder revenue across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
A third-party research company reports that GTA 6 has already brought in more than $400 million in revenue from preorders. According to Sensor Tower's sales tracker for GTA 6, Rockstar has sold 4.38 million copies, including returns, through August 18, generating $429 million in total. The research firm noted that the sales mix currently sits at 77 percent for the PlayStation 5 and 23 percent for the Xbox Series X|S. While this data remains unconfirmed, industry anticipation is high following the launch of preorders on June 25 for the $80 standard edition and $100 Ultimate Edition.
Parent company Take-Two has declined to share official figures, but noted that preorder numbers for GTA 6 are unprecedented in the video game industry. According to reports, more players are currently opting to preorder the $100 edition of the game. Preorder numbers are expected to climb further as experts predict the majority of purchases will land in the final week before launch. One analyst estimated that GTA 6 could achieve 25 million preorders by its release date, potentially generating around $2 billion in revenue—enough to cover development costs and most marketing expenses.
Meanwhile, the title's formal marketing campaign is set to kick off with an August 27 trailer on Netflix. Following multiple delays, GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Addressing pricing choices, Take-Two's Strauss Zelnick stated the company priced the standard edition at $80 to keep it within reach for most buyers, noting that GTA 5 launched at $60 in 2013, which equates to roughly $85 today adjusted for inflation.
