AI firm General Intuition has raised $220m in new funding, valuing the company at $6.2bn. CEO Pim de Witte announced the round via LinkedIn, noting it follows a January funding round that valued the company at $2.3bn.

The funding comes as General Intuition leverages Medal, a game clip-capture platform with over 17 million monthly active players. Both companies operate under a shared parent structure. Medal is on track to reach 3 billion uploaded clips per year, according to de Witte.

Gameplay footage captured through Medal is being used to train commercial AI systems focused on robotics and autonomous driving. Medal has previously stated that players can opt out of having their clips used for AI training at any time.

General Intuition also draws on data from simulated driving and flight games. The company noted that more crashes are recorded daily across simulation environments than occur across the entire US, and more people play with steering wheels than Waymo has autonomous vehicles on the road.

The round was led by Valor Equity Partners, with participation from Atreides, 776, Point72, Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst. General Intuition said it will use the funding to expand its team in New York and Europe, and has opened a waitlist for partners seeking early access to its AI models.
