Frontier Developments Announces Collaboration With Disney for New Game
Frontier Developments has entered an agreement with Disney to fund, develop, and publish a new building and management game based on Disney's intellectual property portfolio.
Frontier Developments, the UK-based studio renowned for its work on building and management simulation games, has officially announced a new agreement with Disney. Under this partnership, Frontier will fund, develop, and publish a brand new video game drawing directly from Disney’s extensive portfolio of iconic intellectual properties. While specific details regarding which exact franchises or properties will be featured remain under wraps, the collaboration leans heavily into the developer's established expertise within the creative management simulation genre.
Known for crafting popular titles such as Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, and Jurassic World Evolution, Frontier intends to leverage its genre experience to connect a passionate and creative community of players with Disney's beloved brand. Jo Cooke, CEO of Frontier Developments, shared enthusiasm for the partnership, stating that the collaboration reinforces the studio's clearly defined strategy of developing and nurturing world-class creative management simulation franchises. Cooke expressed eagerness to witness what the studio's talented teams will achieve with the opportunity.
This strategic move aligns with Frontier’s broader financial and developmental goals. The Cambridge-based developer recently reported its second-highest annual revenue, reaching £104.8 million—a 16% increase—alongside an operating profit of £19 million. The company has explicitly credited its strategic focus on creative management simulation games for this growth, noting that the genre accounted for 90% of its revenue. Having shifted its primary development focus toward simulation titles in 2023 to secure stronger and more predictable returns, Frontier's ongoing strategy centers on delivering one simulation title per year to ensure long-term, sustainable growth through high-quality, evergreen franchises.
In addition to the newly announced Disney collaboration, Frontier is actively developing an unannounced Planet game based on its own proprietary intellectual property. Because the agreement with Disney has only recently been finalized, the newly announced building and management project is still considered to be some way off from release. As details emerge regarding the precise scope, themes, and platform availability of the Disney-based project, further updates are expected from the studio.
