Final Fantasy Resonance Modders Restore Ariana Grande Before Official Launch
Community modders have already added hundreds of characters from the original Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into Final Fantasy Resonance's demo, including guest stars like Ariana Grande that didn't make the cut for the official game.
Final Fantasy Resonance modders are working faster than Square Enix's official roster decisions. Before the game's full launch next month, the community has created a mod that reinstates characters from the now-shuttered mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius that were excluded from Resonance.
The FFR Vision Studio mod introduces nearly 1,300 Brave Exvius units as Visions—summonable characters that appear in battle alongside iconic Final Fantasy characters like Cloud, Lightning, and Cecil. The mod enables guest characters from Brave Exvius to appear in Resonance's demo, including crossover characters like Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, Kingdom Hearts' Sora, and Nier Automata's 2B.
Producer Keisuke Nakashima explained the official decision to exclude such characters, stating that "Ariana Grande's character would not fit within the vibe that we've created for Final Fantasy Resonance." The original Brave Exvius received criticism for its unconventional guest collaborations, though some players have since embraced the camp appeal of the crossovers.
The modding effort remains in active development. The creator is working to improve animations, add a skill dictionary documenting Brave Exvius abilities, and potentially develop side quests tied to specific Visions. Final Fantasy Resonance launches next month as a reconstruction of Brave Exvius, using the original's story as a foundation rather than serving as a direct port or remake.
