Cyprus Ranks Third Globally for Mobile Game Downloads in 2025

Cyprus ranked third globally for mobile game downloads in 2025 according to the Cyprus Video Game Industry Report published by the Cyprus Game Makers Association. The country recorded 615 million mobile game downloads during the year and generated more than €3.2 billion in total game revenue. CYGMA noted that Cyprus generates more game revenue and mobile game installs per capita than any other nation.

Mobile development drives a significant portion of the local market. The report shows that 82.7 percent of Cyprus game companies develop for mobile platforms, while 57.5 percent focus exclusively on mobile projects. Local developers launched 571 new mobile titles in 2025, which contributed around €1.8 billion in revenue. Overall, the country hosts more than 400 game companies, averaging 415 game companies per million people.

The broader games industry in Cyprus expanded sharply between 2019 and 2024. The number of registered companies grew from 169 to 393, and employment tripled from 1,438 to 4,320 workers. The sector's contribution to national GDP increased from 1.3 percent to 3.3 percent, reaching €1.15 billion. Furthermore, the industry recorded €2.76 billion in disclosed mergers and acquisitions alongside 21 exits since 2020.

Despite this growth, talent acquisition remains a challenge for local studios. Cyprus universities currently produce between three and six graduates annually from dedicated game development pathways. Studio demand, by contrast, is estimated between 100 and 300 junior hires. CYGMA is working with local universities to introduce dedicated game development specialisations in an effort to produce between 45 and 85 industry-ready graduates each year.
