CD Projekt Red offers to help after police reports are filed at Gamescom over stolen dev equipment

Multiple game developers attending Gamescom 2026 reported having equipment stolen from their booths and stations, leading to police reports being filed and public responses from event organizers. Ryan Laley, developer of Mimic, shared on a Friday that his team's laptops had been stolen, forcing them to end their event presence early.

Amidst a wave of community support, CD Projekt Red reached out via the official Cyberpunk 2077 social media account to help replace the lost hardware, jokingly offering to check "the Arasaka hardware archives" and stating that "no choom should have to start from zero." The team behind Where Winds Meet, an action RPG from Everstone Studios and NetEase Games, also offered assistance by stating they would stop by the affected booth to help get them back in the game.

At least three teams reported stolen equipment during the event. Ukiyo Studios stated that they had an Xbox controller, drinks, and food stolen, marking what they described as four consecutive years of thefts at the convention. Ukiyo Studios additionally alleged that during a prior incident involving a stolen PC, an individual from Gamescom blocked them from filing a police report to avoid making the city of Cologne and the event look bad.

Gamescom organizers addressed the robberies in an August 29 statement, noting that they are aware of the stolen hardware, take the reports seriously, and understand exhibitor frustration. According to organizers, uniformed guards provide general security across the venue, standalone security can be booked separately, and exhibitors are advised to insure equipment against theft. This statement drew criticism and a community note highlighting that multiple exhibitors had laptops stolen overnight from restricted business and indie area booths despite alleged 24/7 general security. Gamescom confirmed that all cases have been reported to authorities and that police investigations are currently underway.
