Blizzard and Netflix Partner on Animated Diablo Series, Tease Overwatch and Warcraft Adaptations

Blizzard Entertainment has partnered with Netflix to develop an animated series based on the Diablo franchise, the companies confirmed at BlizzCon 2026. The announcement was made by Blizzard president Johanna Faries during the opening ceremony, though no trailer, release window, or episode details were provided.

"A new animated series set in the world of 'Diablo' is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes," Blizzard wrote in a press release about the project. The company noted that it is in "great discussions" regarding potential adaptations of Overwatch and Warcraft, but did not confirm any official plans for those franchises.

Faries emphasized that Blizzard does not intend to limit itself to games, stating that the studio is called Blizzard Entertainment for a reason. She added that the partnership with Netflix is only the beginning, with more developments expected across the company's various universes.

"After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we're partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens," Blizzard said in the press release.

The Diablo animated series will join Netflix's growing list of video game adaptations, which includes animated versions of Cyberpunk 2077, League of Legends, Devil May Cry, and Sonic the Hedgehog. Netflix has also been involved in animated adaptations of Castlevania and other gaming properties.

While no timeline was given for the Diablo series, the announcement marks another step in the trend of major gaming companies expanding their intellectual properties into other media formats. Blizzard previously released a Warcraft movie in 2016, though it received mixed reviews and modest box office returns.
