Apple Announces iPhone Duo Foldable, A20 Pro GPU, and Monster Hunter Outlanders
Apple's recent hardware showcase introduced the iPhone Duo foldable, the A20 Pro chip featuring a 40% faster GPU, and a demonstration of Monster Hunter Outlanders running at up to 120fps.

Apple recently held a major showcase event, marking John Ternus' first keynote as CEO. The presentation introduced the company's first foldable device, the iPhone Duo, alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. For mobile gaming and app development, the announcement highlighted significant hardware upgrades, including a new A20 Pro chip designed with high-end gaming in mind, new software APIs, and a prominent stage demonstration from Tencent and Capcom.
The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer display and opens out to a 7.6-inch inner screen, which is 80% larger than the display on the iPhone 18 Pro. Apple opted for a wider outer display rather than a squarish panel, aiming to avoid cramped vertical scrolling on the inner screen. Powered by the same A20 Pro chip found in the Pro models, the device incorporates a vapour chamber designed for heat management. According to Apple, this thermal system allows the hardware to hold up to 35% more performance over sustained periods compared to the iPhone 17 Pro, a capability tied directly to high frame rate mobile gaming. Pricing for the iPhone Duo is set to range from $2,000 to $3,200, with availability scheduled for October 23, 2026.
At the silicon level, the A20 Pro chip introduces a CPU with two new "supercores" that are up to 20% faster than the previous generation, alongside a data movement speed increase of 50%. Most notably for gaming, the chip features a seven-core GPU that is up to 40% faster than its predecessor. Apple explicitly cited high-end gaming as a primary design target for this generational graphical leap.
During the keynote's gaming segment, Tencent and Capcom showcased their upcoming open-world co-op title, Monster Hunter Outlanders. Apple stated that the game utilizes the A20 Pro's seven-core GPU to deliver iOS-exclusive visuals with console-level lighting and detail at up to 120 frames per second. The title also leverages MetalFX for rendering efficiency and spatial audio for immersive sound design, and it remains scheduled for release later in the year.
Alongside the hardware announcements, Apple detailed the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, which offer expanded battery life supporting up to 36 and 45 hours of video playback, respectively. Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro models begin on Saturday, September 12, 2026, with a release date following on Friday, September 18, 2026.
